Vitali Klitschko will defend his WBC heavyweight title against London-based Pole Albert Sosnowski on May 29 - and then flip a coin with brother Wladimir to decide who fights Britain's David Haye. Haye won the WBA heavyweight title by defeating Russian giant Nikolay Valuev in November and faces the first defence of his title against American John Ruiz next month. Assuming he wins that contest, Haye has his sights set on unifying the heavyweight division and that would mean defeating WBC champion Vitali and his brother Wladimir, the IBF and WBO champion.
Two goals to Des Abbott has seen the Kookaburras finish on top of Pool B and qualify for the semi finals at the 2010 World Cup in India, defeating Pakistan 2-1 in their final pool match of the tournament. Despite controlling the majority of the play, including 30 circle penetrations to 9, the Kookaburras were forced to do it the hard way, trailing at the half-time break by one goal. Following his three-goal haul against South Africa, Jamie Dwyer began this match in similar form and was a constant target for the Kookaburras in the circle from the outset.
Australia's Nathan Green is three shots off the lead in equal second position heading into the final round of the Honda Classic at Palm Beach after recording a third-round three-under-par 67. Green is now eight-under overall and trails leader Camilo Villegas (11-under) who maintained his consistent scoring with a 67 of his own. The Aussie registered a near-faultless round that comprised of four birdies and just the one bogey at the 18th hole. Green shares second place with Vijay Singh, while American George McNeill equalled the best round of the day, 66, to join compatriot Matt Every at six-under.
The Kookaburras have all but booked a spot at the 2010 Hockey World Cup semi-finals after beating Spain 2-0 in India on Saturday night. Australia now plays Pakistan on Monday. With one game remaining in the preliminary round, the Kookaburras are in second place on the Pool B points table and are now one game ahead of Spain with a superior goal difference. The Kookaburras started the match strongly, making genuine shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes. Striker Grant Schubert was handed a golden opportunity when he found himself alone in front of the goal, but couldn't control the ball and it remained 0-0.
Australian Stephanie Gilmore has made the perfect start to her world title defence by winning the 2010 Roxy Pro Gold Coast at Snapper Rocks on Saturday. The three-time world champion and defending champion on the Gold Coast defeated Hawaii's Melanie Bartels in the final, the same woman she beat in last year's final. After cruising through her semi-final against Coco Ho, Gilmore only narrowly edged out Bartels 12.40 to 10.35 to take the first title of the year. "It's definitely a dream start," Gilmore said. "I didn't really expect to win here. The waves weren't so great.
